Honey and infant botulism

I know that the main reason to avoid giving the Troll honey before he turns one is the risk of infant botulism, but beyond that, I didn’t really have much of a clue about how botulism works or what the actual risks are, so, naturally, I thought it would make for an interesting thing to look into and blog about.

Fruit leather

I've seen the baby-friendly fruit-chews in the supermarket but they're ridiculously expensive for what they are. It hadn't occurred to me to try and make my own, so I was pretty excited when I friend shared this video recipe for fruit leather on Facebook.

I have lost count of the number of times that we’ve been told that the Troll is ‘going to break a lot of girls’ hearts when he gets older’ or that ‘all the girls at nursery will need to watch out for this charmer’, or, more recently, at the drop-in nursery we attend, that ‘he’s already found himself a girlfriend’ when another parent saw him happily playing in the sandpit with one of the girls. 

Ingrid's fiskesuppe

On Sunday, I made a big batch of fish soup , based on a recipe from one of our good friends, Ingrid (obvs.; although for her it's mamma's fiskesuppe). It is one of the best soups ever and one of our regular go-to dishes.
